My passion for creating clean beauty products began when I was 18 years old working as a makeup artist at Sephora. When the store had slow traffic, I would read the Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary to learn about the function of different ingredients used in cosmetics. During the evenings, I would develop formulas and study chemistry to teach myself how to create beauty products free of toxins. I learned that it’s not just the ingredients used, but the process in which beauty products are made that impacts their performance.
After graduating from University of Washington, I joined Clarisonic, where I was able to work alongside brilliant chemists to design skincare formulations from scratch. I continued working for L’Oreal in their luxury division, traveling the world to find the industry’s most effective ingredients.
I was inspired to continue my path of creating toxin-free beauty products after losing my dear friend Kristy to cancer. The original Thrive Causemetics formulas started in my kitchen. Now, all of our products are formulated in our lab in Seattle, WA. Thrive is made by Thrive. We control every step of the process and don’t rely on outside chemists or manufacturing, allowing us to have a greater connection with our ingredients, product performance and quality. This also allows us to enlist our social media community for real-time feedback.I’ve come to realize that a single ingredient can change the world, and that ingredient can even be you! From formula development to the packaging and naming of our products, we believe that collaborating with our customers helps us create stronger, more effective products. Including consumers in the product development process is integral to creating beauty products that our customers love, and ones that really work. Our community has helped us develop all of our products to date, including our best-selling Infinity Waterproof Brow Liner™ and Thrive’s latest launch, Triple Threat Color Stick™ for cheeks, eyes + lips. Thank you for being a part of our journey.
What do beauty editors, Thrive makeup and elite athletes all have in common? They’re all sweatproof!
To put our upcoming waterproof beauty products to the ultimate test, we enlisted the help of beauty editors at a sweat sesh in New York at Flywheel. Flywheel is famous for their “never coast” mantra and we agree; you need makeup that works as hard as you do during your workouts!
Here’s a behind the scenes snapshot of us getting Good Housekeeping’s Cody Marrick glam pre-workout.
Success! Our post-workout beauty game is as strong as we were during our class! Yes, I did wear red lip lacquer and falsies to a spin class! With Allure's Shyema Azam who looks flawless per usual!
Check out Olivia Muenter of Bustle, Cody Marrick of Good Housekeeping, and Lara Eurdolian of PrettyConnected.com, still looking fly after the Flywheel class.
All of our makeup is vegan, free of parabens, sulfates and toxins, so they’re safe for use during your sweat sesh — and since eyeliner running down your cheeks is never a good look, you can rest assured that our Infinity™ line has you covered.Tell us in the comments below: Do you wear makeup when you exercise?
Some people bake on the weekends...I make formulas.
Most of our beauty products start in my kitchen before testing them in the lab! Do you want to try this new product we are creating for you?

Today I had the pleasure of sharing the purpose and inspiration behind Thrive Causemetics with the wonderful Margaret Larson of New Day Northwest. It is truly a gift to be able to share our mission with the world, especially given the importance of October and Breast Cancer Awareness. Thank you to the crew along with the amazing studio audience at King 5! We had a blast learning more about you and playing with makeup behind the scenes.
At Thrive Causemetics, we believe in cruelty-free color and that means we never test our cosmetics on animals. Instead, we develop and test our products in collaboration with our team of celebrity makeup artists, dermatologists, ophthalmologists, oncologists and YOU! This multi-pronged approach to beauty product development helps us create makeup that is safe and effective for all women.
All products are also vegan, including our Faux Lashes which are made of Thrive’s proprietary Vegan Silk™ fibers. Vegan Silk™ is lightweight and helps maintain the curl and shape of your false eyelashes for up to 30 wears with proper care. We also make sure to keep parabens, sulfates, latex and toxins out of all of our beauty products.

As a makeup artist, I’ve seen it all at New York Fashion Week: from barely there nudes to faux face piercings. Sometimes it’s hard to replicate the beauty looks you see on the runway for everyday wear.
This season, we created a working-girl-chic beauty look that you can easily recreate in five minutes or less.
Here’s what’s trending:
Bold Brows - Using our Infinity Waterproof Brow Liner, we sketched a soft outline to perfectly sculpt the eyebrows.
Pro Tip: We brushed the brows upward using our spoolie before applying eyebrow liner to give the eyes a more editorial and natural look.
See more expert eyebrow tips and tricks here.
Daytime Smoky Eye: We applied a wash of nude eyeshadow to the entire eyelid and added a little drama by applying Infinity Waterproof Eyeliner at a flat angle along the upper and lower lash lines. Starting at the inner corner of eye and working outward, we created a bold, thick line and blended using the smudge tip for smoldering color.
And of course, no runway beauty routine would be complete without a fabulous pair of false eyelashes! We used our best-selling Jackie Lashes to polish the look.
Soft lips: To balance out the bold eye look, we swept a pale pink gloss onto the lips to keep the look polished and fresh for everyday wear.

Thrive Causemetics was the mastermind behind Assembly New York's Ready-to-Wear beauty look. To compliment designer Greg Armas’ classic, pared-back style, Thrive’s Glam Squad created a bold brow and eye, neutral lip and center-parted, tousled hair. Models wore Infinity Waterproof Eyeliner, Infinity Waterproof Brow Liner and Jackie Lashes.

Thank you to everyone who came out and celebrated National Cancer Thrivers (Survivors) Day with us and Good Morning America in Central Park!
Florence + The Machine performed their empowering hits “Dog Days Are Over” and “Shake It Off”; both are perfect anthems for anyone overcoming an obstacle in their life.
Check out that sea of Thrivers!
All attendees had the opportunity to choose a turquoise sign that represented what inspires them to thrive.
Since Robin Roberts not only inspired the name of our Robin Lashes, but the name of our brand it was truly an honor to spend our first annual Thrivers (Survivors) Day with the Good Morning America team.
Good Morning America allowed us to reach and help millions of people; thank YOU to our community of supporters who help us bring joy to women going through cancer treatment around the world.
For those of you who didn’t catch our segment with Good Morning America, here it is!
What an exhilarating week in New York City! We’ve been busy visiting with some of our favorite magazines: VOGUE, InStyle, Allure and Martha Stewart to name a few. We had an amazing time sharing our giving mission and new products with editors around the city. Anna Wintour, Editor and Chief at VOGUE was the first celebrity client I had the pleasure of working with, so it’s a pretty amazing experience to go back and share the Thrive Causemetics story with her and the team just a few years later.
We had a blast with the crew at Good Morning America! Did you know the GMA glam squad is also the Thrive glam squad backstage at New York Fashion Week and at giving events? We are so grateful to have them as part of the team.
Tonight, we’re getting ready to connect in person with some of our thrivers and friends in the big apple. Stay tuned for more updates on our adventures in NYC!- Karissa
When Thrive Causemetics was just a seedling of an idea, my mission was to provide a solution for women who had lost their eyelashes due to cancer or alopecia. Traditional false lashes fell short in a lot of ways— they didn’t stay on, they caused irritation, they didn’t look natural... With the help the world’s top engineers, we designed a line of faux lashes that actually work, whether you have lashes or not. We also developed what we feel is the best eyelash adhesive for all skin types with quality ingredients that are free of latex, parabens and sulfates.
But just like a seedling grows, so did my vision: for every Thrive product purchased, one is donated to a woman going through cancer treatment.
And Thrive’s story has evolved even further. We’ve received amazing support from our thrivers, giving partners, the fashion industry, media and of course, you. In just a few months, you’ve helped us donate over 5,000 beauty products. FIVE THOUSAND! You are now as much a part of the Thrive story as I am. YOU are Beauty with a Purpose.
So... What’s next for Thrive? We’re continuing our story, beyond falsies and lash glue, stay tuned for a very exciting announcement coming soon!
This is just the beginning.— Karissa
