Bigger Than Beauty® Spotlight: Kara Frazier + Fighting Pretty

Giving Partners - Fighting Pretty

Meet Kara - the inspiration behind our new Sheer Strength™ Hydrating Lip Tint (Muted Rose) shade! Kara Frazier is a breast cancer survivor, and the Founder of our long time Giving Partner, Fighting Pretty. In 2008, at just 26 years old, Kara performed her first self-breast exam and found a suspicious lump. After visiting the doctor, she was told that she was “too young to worry”, but Kara was tenacious and pushed for a closer examination. After reevaluating, they determined that she did in fact, have stage 3 breast cancer.

Kara realized she wanted to go through this ordeal by “Fighting Pretty” - with a smile on her face, lipstick on her lips, and strength in her heart. She braved a double mastectomy, eight rounds of chemotherapy, four weeks of radiation, fertility treatments, a year of Herceptin treatments, and ten years of hormone therapy. In January of 2020, Kara underwent another surgery to have her breast implants removed due to a recall on her textured, tear drop shaped, Allergan implants. She is currently "flat and fabulous" and has just reached her 11th year as a cancer survivor! A true “thriver”, Kara has now dedicated her life to helping other cancer patients through their fight by creating the nonprofit organization known as Fighting Pretty.

Kara established Fighting Pretty in 2013, to remind women battling all types of cancer, at any stage of treatment, they are strong, beautiful, fierce and amazing. Through their Strength and Beauty Program, Fighting Pretty works with hospitals, cancer clinics and support groups to provide pink boxing gloves, “clean” lipstick and inspirational coloring pages. They have impacted over 20,000 women battling cancer in 50 U.S. states and 16 countries globally.

Fighting Pretty first became a Thrive Causemetics® Giving Partner back in 2018. With YOUR support, we have sent over 50,000 Thrive Causemetics® products valued at more than $1 million to Fighting Pretty, to include in their cancer care packages! To learn more about Fighting Pretty, you can visit their website and Instagram page.

I have received some Thrive products in some of my boxes that I got from other organizations. I plan to buy more of these products. I have been diagnosed with breast cancer in Jan 2024 and I’m now going through radiation. I’ve already been through Chemo (that was rough) and I will be on hormone therapy after radiation. I love your mission. Thank you,

I, too, just discovered a lump (size of grape). Had biopsy (OUCH!) and it is DCIS Stage 0 (but told stage 1). I am currently on Letroxole, radiation pill for the summer to shrink it for surgery in September. I am 69. Get mammo every year. My next one was this month but discovered it last month. Seemed large for less than a year. Praying don’t need chemo as doing oncotype test ?

Anyway, I just ordered your mascara as looks better than what I last bought! Thank you!

@Lorraine Thanks for reaching out to us! We are proud to partner with incredible organizations to bring the power of beauty to every woman, no matter what challenges she faces. Although we aren’t able to connect you with a nonprofit directly, we recommend that you connect with your doctor or other health care provider who is more knowledgeable about this type of assistance. I am battling pancreatic cancer and I have been blessed that I am in the very small percentage group eligible for the Whipple procedure. After 6 rounds of 3 day, each session, chemo,, I am having surgery in 9 days. I continue to use Thrive cosmetics every day and have had multiple compliments on my make-up! Blessings to all the cancer patients and survivors – keep being your best – inside and out!

This is so inspiring to hear what you went through and how you are helping others now. There are lots of programs for breast cancer…and it is so important for sure! I had a large sarcoma cancer tumor in my thigh and had surgery then 6 weeks of radiation. The radiation fractured the bone, so I have a rod from my knee to my hip. I am a thankful survivor! July is sarcoma awareness month, and I just wanted to add this so others would be aware. 15 to 20% of children’s cancers are sarcoma. Thanks!

I was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago. I had 6 chemo treatments, a double mastectomy and am now getting herceptin chemo for a year and a hormone blocker pill daily. I lost all my hair which is now starting to come back. I have used Thrive eyeliner for years and when I lost all my eyelashes I continued to use it Thank you for having a product that made me look pretty when my body was going through devastation to survive. I will have a total hysterectomy soon. I AM A SURVIVOR! Linda J.

I started using your products after reading about your mission back in 2018. The fact that your products are the best I’ve used is icing in the cake! I loved supporting women going through cancer, never dreaming that last summer I would join the club no one wants to join. I have sarcoma and have gone through radiation and surgery. No chemo, because most sarcomas unfortunately don’t respond to it. I have been NED since last December, but we live with this for the rest of our lives. Thank you

Look Good Feel Better! Inspiring was my motto fighting Stage2A triple negative breast cancer in 2016. Just passing that 5 year mark of finishing treatment…as you realize it never truly ends. WE are different especially inside after treatments…I accept that. Osteoporosism fibromyalgia, neuropathy and chemo brain are my new diagnoses I now carry with me. Thank y’all for all you do, behind your closed eyes, in the dreams of no more of this now!!!! Let’s feel good🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

    Hi,
I am battling metastic breast cancer and I have to say that with my post chemo newly re-grown lashes, i am certainly enjoying your mascara. It has really helped in the regrowth of my eyelashes. I am also using the eye and lip pencil, lipstick, and lip gloss and find them so soothing on my dry lips. I am starting another chemo drug and look forward to using your products while undergoing chemotherapy. Thank you !

I always support independent Women owners of business. So many women are the head of their households and don’t get the paycheck that they deserve or need to raise their families. I’ve been very lucky in my life so paying it forward is something I do purposefully! I’ve see many small women owned businesses on View your Deal when watching one of my favorite tv programs and often purchase products I’ve seen advertised on that site and I think that is where I discovered Thrive. Thanks!

Thank you for doing what you do to help the survivors of cancer. Every little bit helps. I am a retire radiation therapist who worked with these special people for 45 years. People with breast cancer have several programs that are geared for them. There are few “feel better” programs for the rest of the population struggleing with their disease. I have lymphoma, and my husband died from lymphoma. I was fortunate not to lose my eyebrows, lashes etc. Both men and women really need a boost

I am also a breast cancer survivor and love how you have started this program. Chemotherapy did a number on me and I lost my long curly hair, which has absolutely devastated me. It has started to come back as I am just over a year since my last chemo. I had a double mastectomy and reconstruction and then had my ovaries removed. I am almost a year on my “caner pill” with 9 more to go. I have my days and after reading this I had to help support this amazing cause.

What a beautiful story of an amazingly strong woman!! Thank you for fighting for others. As much as we think it shouldn’t matter, when every part of you is taken by cancer having something to make you feel pretty and “normal” makes such a difference.

Hearing that such an organization exists and that Thrive contributes to it made me so happy! I also am a 2 time breast cancer survivor. I know first hand the effects of chemo and medication treatments can have on our looks. Feeling pretty really does wonders to lift our spirits!

God bless you. Our Lord had bigger and better things for you to do. My mom was a single parent raising 6 children when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was in the 11th grade, working part time and helping my mom raise my other siblings when we almost lost her. She has battled cancer 3 times. Today my mother is 87 years old and her cancer is still in remission.
