Celebrating the Launch of our 5th Cause: LGBTQ+

LGBTQ+

Thrive Causemetics® has proudly supported the LGBTQ+ community for many years. Within our Thrive Causemetics® family, there are many LGBTQ+ members and leaders - this includes our customers, employees, Giving Partners, friends and family. That’s why we are thrilled to finally announce the formal launch of the LGBTQ+ community as our 5th official Giving “cause”! We honor + celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community and empower those in the community to express freely and authentically, often through the power of cosmetics.

To celebrate this launch, we asked YOU to help us expand our Giving Partner list, by nominating your favorite LGBTQ+ nonprofit organizations. You spoke, and we listened! We are so proud to announce that we will be adding 3 incredible organizations to the Thrive Causemetics® community! Each new organization has received a $5,000 cash donation to support their mission, all thanks to YOU!

Meet our new Giving Partners serving the LGBTQ+ Community:

  1. Alana Faith Chen Foundation - provides financial support to LGBTQ+ individuals to receive mental health treatment and therapy on their path to healing from trauma.Alana Faith Chen Foundation
  2. Drag Queen Story Hour Arizona - Drag Queens inspire children to be themselves + equip them with literacy skills by reading inclusive children’s literature during story time.Drag Queen Story Hour Arizona
  3. The Montrose Center - empowers LGBTQ+ individuals (and their families) in Houston, TX to live healthier, more fulfilling lives through an integrated care model that provides access to behavioral health, primary care, and wellness programs. The Montrose Center

Since our founding, we have donated over $4 million in products and cash to the LGBTQ+ community, all thanks to YOU. We are honored to stand with this community through our brand, that goes beyond skin deep. Read on to learn more about some of our long-time Giving Partners who serve the LGBTQ+ community.

UTOPIA WA

United Territories of Pacific Islanders Alliance Washington (UTOPIA WA) is a queer and trans people of color-led, grassroots organization, based in Kent, WA. They work with QTPI (Queer and Trans Pacific Islanders) leaders to create a safe space for members of the Pacific Islander LGBTQ+ community, by addressing basic needs, building pathways for career opportunities, and advocating for social justice.

Because of YOU, since our partnership began in 2019, UTOPIA WA has received over 65,000 products valued at more than $1.9 million. In July 2021, the Thrive Causemetics® team had an opportunity to visit UTOPIA WA’s office and see their work in action. A highlight of our visit was touring the ‘Noqu Senirosi’ - UTOPIA WA’s glam room. They built out a beauty bar in their office, stocked with many Thrive Causemetics® products for the QTPI community. The Beauty Bar is a sanctuary where individuals can try on makeup, find their perfect shade, and feel empowered to express themselves authentically.

My Sistah’s House

My Sistah’s House (MSH) is a non profit organization that fosters security for the most vulnerable of the transgender, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer (TLGBQ) communities in Memphis, Tennessee by providing emergency housing, advocacy, and resource assistance. MSH was founded in 2016 by two trans women of color who sought to bridge a gap in services for trans and queer people of color.

My Sistah’s House has been a Thrive Causemetics® Giving Partner since October 2019. Because of YOU, they have received over 9,000 products valued at more than $150,000! My Sistah’s House was also a participant in our 2021 Juneteenth Donation Day campaign, when we partnered with over 20 organizations passionate about racial + social justice and advancing African-American and Black communities. With your help, we raised $115,000 cash and the funds were evenly distributed to all participating organizations.

In February 2022, we hosted an Instagram Live event with Kayla Gore, Founder of My Sistah’s House. Kayla’s work includes fighting for housing equity for all people who are chronically homeless and advocating for the just treatment of transgender people by law enforcement. She also provides training for community-based organizations (CBO’s), educational institutions, and healthcare organizations around trans inclusivity.

House of GG

The Griffin-Gracy Educational Retreat & Historical Center’s (a.k.a. “House of GG”) mission is to create programs, services, and resources that positively impact the lives, history, and visibility of Transgender, gender-questioning, and gender-nonconforming people. They offer programs that promote healing justice, resilience, and organizing among communities, particularly by and for transgender women of color, to remove barriers that inhibit their survival.

Thrive Causemetics® connected with House of GG through our Juneteenth Donation Day campaign, which benefited over 20 nonprofits nominated by our online community. Each participating organization received a cash donation of $5,000. Since then, we have also supported House of GG with Thrive Causemetics® products for their community, valued at more than $12,000. In February 2022, the Thrive Causemetics® team crafted handmade cards in celebration of Valentine's Day, and wrote empowering messages for our friends at House of GG. These cards featured beautiful photos of Miss Major, Founder of House of GG, and her family.

We hope you enjoyed learning more about these Giving Partners who help us fulfill our Bigger Than Beauty® mission. Do you know of a nonprofit that serves the LGBTQ+ community that would benefit from our product donation program? If so, leave a comment below!

Hi! It’s great that you support many different causes. I see numbers for donations to LGBTQ cause but what are the donations to the other groups you support like cancer, homelessness etc?

@vinita Thanks so much for your support! We love learning about new Giving Partners through our Thrive Causemetics Community! If you are a part of a nonprofit organization, or have one in mind, we’d love to hear from them during our open enrollment period. Please have them check out our Giving Partner Application . Our Giving Team will review the application, and if the organization looks like a good fit, our team will connect with them directly to explore a potential partnership!

I would suggest that you add The Trevor foundation to your list of LBGTQ+ contributions they help gay youth, many of whom have been kicked out of their homes and are living on the streets. Thank you for your consideration. I will now consider buying more of your expensive product.

@Patricia – This is a great question! We are proud to partner with incredible organizations across the country that empower communities from one of our eight giving causes: cancer, homelessness and poverty, domestic abuse, racial and social justice, education, LGBTQ+, veterans and under-resourced youth. We practice Responsive Giving, meaning we listen to nonprofits and contribute in ways that best address their needs.
